How to Access H5P in Canvas

This guide will help you access H5P in Canvas. H5P tools can be used in a course as a means of engaging with content or as a way of assessing learning. As an Assignment, H5P links to your Canvas gradebook. As an engagement tool, H5P can be embedded directly in a Canvas Page.

Using H5P as an Assignment 

1. To created a graded H5P assignment in Canvas, follow the steps below:
2. Click Assignments and click +Assignment to add a new assignment
   
3. Under Submission Type click the dropdown arrow and select External Tool
4. Click Find
   
5. A popup will appear. Choose H5P and confirm by clicking on Select
   
6. The H5P popup will appear. This is the area where you will create H5P content. Pull the handle in the bottom right corner to resize this popup to get a better editing experience
   
   Your list of content is empty by default. To create new content:
   
   
7. Click the Add Content button at the top
8. The Create new content page loads showing the H5P Content Type selector. Pick a content type and start creating content.

   
   
   

   Tip: You can also switch to the "All content" tab, where you can access content created by your colleagues and shared with the entire organization. You can clone some of their content if you do not want to create new content from scratch.

   
   

9. When you are done creating content, click the Save and Insert button to insert the H5P content as an assignment.
   
   
10. Save an assignment in the usual way. This is how the assignment will look with H5P content in it. You can edit the H5P content by pressing the button Edit above the content.

Using H5P as an Engagement Tool

To use H5P as a content engagement tool, follow the steps below.

Note: Only H5Ps inserted on an assignment will generate scores. 

1. Select Pages and click the button to add a new page
2. Click the plugin icon dropdown and select View All. Then click Interactive Content - H5P.
   
3. The H5P popup will appear. This is the area where you will create H5P content. Pull the handle in the bottom right corner to resize this popup to get a better editing experience.
