Canvas Training Requirements for New Students

All AAP programs require new students to complete the Canvas training modules located in the AAP Student Gateway course. This training takes you through Canvas's structure and tools and introduces you to the types of communication available to you.  The information below guides you through accessing and completing the training.

Logging in and Accessing the AAP Student Gateway  


STEP ONE – Log in   

Log in to Canvas using the following steps:    

  1. Go to https://my.jh.edu .  
  2. Move down the page to Education and expand the section.   
  3. Favorite the Canvas Portal by clicking on the heart (this will pin it to the top of the page). Note: If you cannot pin Canvas (or do not see the Canvas Portal), you can access it via https://canvas.jhu.edu/ and bookmark it at this time.   
  4. Click the Canvas button to launch Canvas (this will open Canvas in a new tab).   

Note: You can also access Canvas on a mobile device.   


STEP TWO – Access the AAP Student Gateway    

Access the AAP Student Gateway and complete the Canvas Training Modules using the following steps:   


  1. Once you are logged into Canvas, you will see the course CO.AAP.Student.Gateway on your dashboard. See Getting Started for Students – Canvas at JHU for help with Canvas navigation.   
  2. Choose your learning pathway. You will have two options to choose from:
    Pathway One: New Canvas User
    -Complete Canvas Orientation for Students Modules 1-3
    -Complete the Final Course Assessment

    Pathway Two: Previous Canvas User
    -Complete Learning Pathway 2 - Checkpoint Activities and
    -Complete Course Assessment – Learning Pathway 2
    Note: You have one attempt at this assessment. If you score below a 70% you will need to complete Pathway 1 and the Pathway 1 Final Course Assessment   
  3. Once you have completed the required training, your course will appear under Courses on your Canvas menu within 24 hours
