This article will help you assign different due dates for a singular assignment in Canvas. This feature is helpful for setting make-ups, using different dates for different courses, and separating undergraduate and graduate work.

Instructions

  1. Select Assignments on your course Navigation menu.
  2. Locate the assignment you would like to work on and click on the title. This will take you to the assignment's page.
  3. Click the Edit section located under the three dots beside the green checkmark. Select More Options on the pop-up screen.
  4. Navigate the Assignment Settings Page until you reach the Assign menu. Here you will be able to adjust availability settings and manage the due date(s) for an assignment.
    • Assign to determines the set of students affected by the chosen due date. By default, a single set of due dates will be assigned to all members of the course.
    • The Due field determines the deadline for an assignment, all assignments submitted after this date are then flagged in the Gradebook.
    • The Available from field determines when the assignment can be accessed by members of the course.
    • The Until field determines when students can no longer access the assignment.
    • The +Add button allows you to create different sets of dates for different groups of students.

  5. Click the +Add button to assign different due dates for the assignment. Canvas will ask you to identify which students the new date applies to.
  6. You can choose to select between entire course sections if teaching a cross-listed class, or individual students. Once selected, you should be able to adjust the other settings as you would a single due date.
  7. Click the blue Save button at the bottom of the page to save the entered date settings for the assignment.
